Volunteer Application Form
The Neighbors Network of Lee County, Inc. is starting its FIRST village in Lee County, to be located in the geographic area along and near the Six Mile Cypress Parkway corridor in Fort Myers. This pilot village is called the Neighbors Network of Six Mile Cypress.
Our Big Goal
The goal of the NNLC is to create a hub of neighbors networks throughout Lee County. While one aspect of our network will be to connect people to organizations that deliver services and support to older adults, our mission is to offer help and opportunities for older adults to maintain their lives with dignity and to engage socially in a variety of programs, seminars, and activities.
The NNLC is the administrative hub and once we create our first Neighbors Network, we will use the knowledge gained to replicate the model throughout Lee County. The hub will serve all Neighbors Networks throughout Lee County. The following map includes the general area covered by the Neighbors Network of Six Mile Cypress.
Why are we doing this?
It is well-established that social isolation leaves older adults less likely to engage in physical activity, which in turn, results in poor health outcomes and depression. By creating a network of friendly neighbors, the NNLC will provide safe, fun opportunities to become socially engaged and when needed, provide the support needed to remain independent for as long as practical.
Beginning August 2, 2023, we are offering programs that support those who wish to be more active physically and socially. By starting with programming, we are providing an opportunity to meet new people and to create a community of neighbors helping neighbors.
Starting a brand new nonprofit organization is exciting. It also requires careful planning and staging to prepare for the high expectations of many people who want to help and those who need help. Sometimes a neighbor will provide help and other times may need help from someone else. That is why we are focusing right now on creating a cohesive and supportive community where we share and share alike, if possible and practical.
Our current needs:
VOLUNTEERS AT START-UP: As a new start-up organization, we are actively recruiting volunteers to help with event planning; volunteer scheduling, training and management; information technology and social media; marketing and communications; legal guidance; and fundraising.
VOLUNTEERS ONCE WE ARE UP AND RUNNING: For those who would like to help once we are up and running, we ask for patience as we continue with our start-up tasks. We need you and your kind spirits to help with occasional friendly visits, transportation to appointments and shopping, light indoor and outdoor tasks, respite for caregivers and other methods of support. We need many volunteers and it will take awhile to develop a corps of volunteers to meet demand.
